Discount Calculator
Calculate the final price after a discount and see how much money you save.
After a 20% discount, the price drops from $100 to $80, saving you $20.
Why This Calculation Matters
The Discount Calculator answers a common everyday math question in seconds, no spreadsheet, no mental arithmetic, no sticky notes.
How to Use This Calculator
- Enter your values in the input fields, each one has a label and help text explaining what to type.
- Results appear instantly as you type; there's no "calculate" button to press.
- Change any input to compare scenarios side by side.
All math happens in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server, saved, or shared.
Calculating Discounts
Final Price = Original Price × (1, Discount/100)
Savings = Original Price × (Discount/100)
Stacking Discounts
When discounts stack, apply them sequentially. A 20% off + 10% off coupon is NOT 30% off. It's: Price × 0.80 × 0.90 = Price × 0.72 = 28% total discount.
Formula
Sale price = original × (1 − discount%). Amount saved = original − sale price. Stacked discounts multiply, not add: a 20% + 10% stack is 1 − (0.8 × 0.9) = 28%, not 30%.
Worked Example
A $120 item with a 25% discount.
- Original price
- $120
- Discount
- 25%
- Result
- $90 (save $30)
$120 × (1 − 0.25) = $90.

Limitations & Common Mistakes
